Getting MPG results from my Chevy Venture
Blogging about things that happen.
So as I start my class in college as a Network Speclist I’m getting my servers back in service. I thought I’ll post a little bit about them.
Here I have a 1U server running CentOS 5.5 with Apache/PHP/MySQL. Running Webmin aswell. I do most work through command line but use webmin for some tasks.
Has 1GB RAM and a Pentium III (Coppermine), 2 core Intel Processor. Website: http://nix.benswebsite.org:81/ The port is 81 as port 80 is used for the Windows Server.
The desktop next to the file cabinet is my Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition.
Has 512MB RAM 32-bit system with a Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80 GHz (I really need to update it’s RAM.)
Website: http://serv1.benswebsite.org
Used to be a domain server as an experiment. Learned some good stuff from it… One thing I know is if you ever link domain servers, make sure the ips are static. A friend of mine wanted to link his to mine, and his IP changed. He said it’s static which it wasn’t, and screwed up the entire server.
I’ve also played with a proxy software, called Squid. I used to run it on my VPS server (also running CentOS and what this website is hosted on)
I have a file server that is ran in the back room. Don’t really want it out here, but it’s plugged into a battery backup, like my other computers. I plan to upgrade them to a higher battery type. Need something that will last longer than 20 minutes if there’s a power outage.
The file server is ran by FreeNAS 7.3 with i386-embedded on Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.53GHz
Sucks that their new version doesn’t have support to play on game consoles. has 1GB RAM. There’s no site for it. Though I can access it anywhere, but don’t have it setup.
A picture of my little network setup. I also have a file server which is placed in another room. The tower on the bottom left next to the file cabinet is the Windows server, and on top of the file cabinet is the CentOs server, with a KVM switch connected to my 2nd monitor. Tried to wire the windows server to it, but the cable is too small.
Since my gallery web page is messed up, I’m placing gallery images in posts I make (If I have pictures for them.)
So I installed a new air filter in my Chevy Venture. One thing I hate about most cars is that everything is so close together you don’t have so much room to work. I went to the gas station to put a little gas in and some Gumout fuel injector cleaner while I got the new filter in. My laptop wasn’t with me at the time, but will be when I go to college tomorrow morning. Hopefully the mileage will be a little better.
Overall she’s still going strong. I thought of getting Seafoam for it. But I’ll get one for the Thunderbird may be. With all this rain I can’t even get to work on it. Hopefully in a few days it’ll be sunny for a good while then me and my neighbor can start doing some work. I might either have a live webcam show, or just have a camera recording and then just edit it to fast forward and play music in the background.
One thing that sucks is that 4G from Verizon is not available everywhere. As I mentioned in my last post I have a new mobile hotspot from Verizon, and still use it for uploading videos (way faster than my other connection) and my blog…. I need to get an adapter so I can charge my laptop in the car.
What I found out from having the hotspot on while driving I saw 4G was lit up in Henry County. The map from Verizon said it’s around Atlanta, of course some coverage maps aren’t always accurate. Since I start school Wednesday I will be able to test 4G out. If it’s available near my school in Griffin, GA.
As my friend has a new year resolution for saving money… I need to save lots of money for gas. It will be a 100 mile total drive going from work, school, and home.
